NHK Special: Inside Toyota

Edit page

A couple of weeks ago I saw this youtube clip on the feed. He talked about this TV program NHK Special Inside Toyota. Since the program is only available in Japan. I had to download it with torrent. Sadly, there’s no official way just to watch from overseas, even if I am more than happy to pay. The program talks about the development of new Toyota Corolla. Many scenes recall my 5 years of working in a Toyota group company.

I like this NHK program so does the Toyota car but it feels like one-sided love. NHK created a very good content but doesn’t let you pay for view. Toyota made great cars but just doesn’t sell them in here. From my experiences working with Japanese companies & living in Japan, this is a reflection of the current Japanese society where there’s a clear separation of internal & external, domestic & international, friends & colleagues. Undeniably Japanese culture forms these walls of separation. A company like Toyota in one way is a microcosm of the society where invisible walls are in every direction. On the other hand, I truly believe that if Toyota wants the changes, Toyota can do it and it will make a positive effect on Japanese society as a whole.
